Innovative Stormwater Management in our Nations Capital

Description

Join Nitsch Engineering and DC Water for an overview of the DC Clean Rivers Project and the efforts to implement green infrastructure stormwater management facilities in the District. First, the presentation covers green infrastructure strategies, including brief descriptions of best management practices and their social, environmental, and economic benefits. Then, the course discusses how implementation of green infrastructure can mitigate the impacts of climate change as well as create healthier, more livable, and vibrant communities.

Finally, the origins of the Green Infrastructure Challenge is discussed through the example of the Kennedy Street Greened competition entry as well as the subsequent Streetscape Project, a demonstration project for DC Water’s large-scale GI effort. Focus is placed on the different elements of the design, including the 33 green infrastructure practices that were designed and implemented on one city block.
