Connection to Prevention: Dance/Movement Therapy and Its Relationship to Public Health and Wellness


The area of Public Health and Wellness has gained a great deal of momentum over the past few years. This webinar explores the application of dance/movement therapy to the area of Public Health, Wellness and Prevention. Salient terms will be defined. In addition, positioning dance/movement therapists to contribute to this field will be strategized. Ultimately, participants will understand how to “connect” these two areas of practice. Learning Objectives

  1. Participants will learn general terminology related to the areas of Public Health, wellness and prevention.
  2. Participants will enhance their understanding of the connection between the fields of dance/movement therapy and Public Health and Wellness
  3. Participants will take steps toward applying the Public Health approach to their own (or potential) workplace environments


Shannon Lengerich

Shannon has over eight years of experience in the areas of Public Health and wellness. Currently, as the Director of the Office of Health Promotion and Wellness at DePaul University, Shannon regularly incorporates dance/movement therapy principles and techniques into her work. Shannon is a member of the ADTA Practice Sub-Committee and recently became certified as a Movement Pattern Analysis Consulta nt. Shannon is excited to put this information to use as a manager and entrepreneur.
